October’s Beauty Buys

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

Gentle pinkish tones match so well with my skin tone so when I saw this Chanel nail varnish in ‘Rose Caché’, I had to get it. Plus, it works for all four seasons.

Prior to moving to Paris, I never wore lipstick – I glossed it all the way. Chanel Coco Rouge in ‘Mademoiselle’ is creamy, pink and very chic. Now all I need to do is find the perfect red lipstick and I’ll be on my way to the perfect Parisian make-up bag.

Do you have one piece of make-up you never leave home without?

oh – good choice. got the rose cache, too, and i love it.

for some reason i carry so many different products with me everyday, most of them i never use. but i can’t live without my coloured lip balms by MAC (i used to have the la mer lip balm, which is a sensation – the price is a sensation, too, though).

      Lovely, isn’t it?

You lucky thing! I’m dying to try Crème de la Mer products, but am not loving the price.

So feminine Milla! I used to wear lipstick and now I wear an almost nude gloss. I’ve tried several times to wear lipstick again and I find it just doesn’t look right on me. In fact, I put on red lipstick and causally walked by my hubby and he just said “no”…which is code for he’s not feelin’ that look.
I don’t leave home without blush (combo of Benetint & High Beam from Benefit), otherwise I look like I’m deathly ill – olive complexion (which is “nice” for green).

Hehe, Mr Cupcake cracks me up!

I honestly believe that blusher transforms ones face. I wouldn’t be caught dead taking out the rubbish without it. The ‘High beam’ – is that a cream?

I love Chanel beauty products and I’m a big fan of Chanel Coco Rouge (I have the ‘Venise’ and Ballet Russe’ shades). On the perfect red lipstick, I recently found mine: Ruby Woo by MAC, just perfect (I wrote about it here: http://notjustaprettydress.blogspot.com/2011/08/red-entry.html)

I have three make-up products I use every day: Helena Rubinstein black mascaras, YSL Touche Éclat, and Estée Lauder bronzer during the summer or a Shu uemura blush for the cold months.

I’ve heard such great things about the Ruby Woo shade but unfortunately I cannot use MAC products. Alas, the search continues. YSL Touche Éclat is amazing! Good choice.

Love Chanel makeup, especially the lipstick. I have so many and usually don’t leave home without several!

    • Thursday, October 6, 2011 13:35

Smart woman! I love the different textures and finishes Chanel lipsticks offer.

  5. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 14:42

That is a lovely shade of pink! I can’t believe that Coco Blue is sold out :( But I’ve just got my first Chanel nail polish, and I’m hooked! I’m definitely getting more soon.

And good luck finding the perfect red lipstick. Let us know if you’ve found it ;)

I was actually offended when I heard someone say that Chanel varnish is awful. Personally, I don’t follow the hype on products but it is the best I’ve tried. I tend to wear softer shades but am keen to see what your polish looks like. Do you do your own nails?

      • Thursday, October 6, 2011 15:12

GASP who said that? I’ve tried Chanel’s nail polishes before (but since they’re expensive, I would wait for new releases and see if there are any that I just have to have) and they are amazing! No streaking whatsoever!

Oh, my first Chanel nail polish is up on my blog. I got the Graphite! :D

OPI is really good too, so I’m not as picky with colours as I can get them for half the price of a Chanel. The popular professional brands are definitely OPI and Essie (although I’ve never tried Essie).

And yes, I do my own nails ;)

You’re seriously multi-talented. My nails look so ugly if I do them myself. Off to check out your blog…

That Chanel nail varnish is so beautiful, such a soft and lovely shade. I never leave the house without my lip gloss or lipstick.

I feel in love with it immediately. Today I’m wearing Pêche Nacrée though – a soft, peachy shade. Do you wear nail varnish?

  7. Wednesday, October 5, 2011 18:17

adore the lovely Rose Nail polish of Chanel, gorgeous! well, actually always have my Lipgloss and Poudre with me! ;)

    • Thursday, October 6, 2011 13:29

It seems that lip gloss is the must-have product! Which one do you use?

  8. Thursday, October 6, 2011 07:54

Ahhh, a little bit of Chanel is definitely the best way to start the month! I’ve also been slightly obsessed with nude nails lately too and agree that a little bit of pink is always flattering and chic :)

As for red lipstick, it’s safe to say that I’m fanatical- I wear it practically everyday (I just feel more like ‘me’ with it!). And after trying nearly every brand, I’ve found L’Oreal to be my favorite… who would have thought, right?

Nude nails are also a favourite for mine. It’s nice to have something on ones nails, but nothing too intense. Soft pink is nice as it works with all complexions.

Which shade of red do you use? It’s interesting how the most unlikely brands always have one product we cannot live without.

Lip balm is a lifesaver! Seriously. Give lipstick a try – so for something smooth and satin like. Chanel have the best ones I’ve tried so far.

love that nail polish, I’ve had my eyes on it for some time. Excellent choice!

These days I never leave home without my Chanel gloss. It was a gift from my best friend in Iceland and it’s like I’m taking her with me wherever I go ;-) For me it was the other way around, I always wore lipstick before and then I stopped doing that and went for gloss.

    • Thursday, October 6, 2011 13:13

You have to get it Lisa, it’s so nice!

Chanel gloss which also has sentimental value? It doesn’t get any better! What a lovely present to receive.

  12. Friday, October 7, 2011 03:35

great selections here… I feel like you can’t go wrong with anything Chanel! I never leave home without a few different lip glosses/lipsticks in my purse! I also always have eye concealer for my crazy dark circles.

    • Friday, October 7, 2011 09:13

You’re so right! I need some eye concealer, which one do you recommend?

  13. Friday, October 7, 2011 12:36

Such a pretty shade of pink! Would look cute even on short nails I imagine?
I haven’t stepped outside without mascara since I was about 14, so that’s my never-leave-home-without product, wouldn’t even go to my mailbox without it… I’ve always been a lipstick girl, started when I was about 16 or 17. I’ve never tried real gloss! Actually I would like to try, but I don’t dare(?). Can you please recommend me a gloss with just a subtle shimmer, not too shiny, one that stays on for a few hours? Oh, and with a nice smell.. *demanding* ;-)

    • Sunday, October 16, 2011 17:03

I have super short nails Nina and anyway, I think nail varnish looks better on short nails.

You have the most beautiful eyes so the mascara works well to highlight them.

I like Shishido lip gloss because it’s not too heavy/gooey and lasts a while. I’m always drink tea so my gloss never stays on long. I will keep looking for you :-)

    Hello Milla.
I am also a lipstick fan. I am also a Chanel fan but i am currently using
Nars. “Mitzi” for the days that i want to look natural and “Manhunt” for the
days that I want red lips.
Do recommend any other ones that you have tried and liked.

    Thank you.
    xx

Bonjour Popi, I’ve never heard of either lipstick, but am a big NARS fan. I’m particularly drawn to anything called “Manhunt” so will check that out :-)

I’m a very recently lipstick convert… I used to be a gloss girl too. Do you think it’s a sign that we’re growing up? :)

My matte brown lipstick from M.A.C.
The colour is Paramount. It’s kind of a burnt Sienna colour that matches well with my chocolate skin.

    • Monday, October 10, 2011 10:27

Isn’t MAC amazing for people of all skin tones? It really has done well at showing that people of all colours want the same quality and diversity in their beauty products.

  17. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 00:04

I’m am going to buy Chanel’s “rouge allure” lipstick very soon, I tried so many reds in the quest for the perfect shade for my skin and this one stood out so well. It is really important to match your skin tone rather than go with “trends” – I’ve made this mistake before…

The one piece of makeup I never leave home without? Bobbi Brown’s glimmer palette for cheeks is perfect for a fabulous glow all year round. I’m addicted to the Bobbi Brown range..

    • Sunday, October 16, 2011 17:04

SOTC, would you recommend Bobbi Brown then? I haven’t tried any of that range.

  18. Friday, October 14, 2011 04:50

I love my lipstick, it is very natural–it’s by Chanticalle, a French brand?, and the color is called Sari Rose. It goes on pretty sheer but not as sheer as lipgloss. I really hope they never discontinue it!

    • Friday, October 14, 2011 17:26

Stock up baby!! They always discontinue your I-can’t-live-without-products. Always.
