Milla’s Paris: Le Bar 228 at Le Meurice
I know that come January when I’m crossing La Manche and bidding farewell to France, I will leave with fond memories, and my evening at the Bar 228 at Le Meurice will be one of them. Not only did I spend the evening catching up with my lovely friend Gail, I also enjoyed some of the best service I’ve had in Paris. People may disagree with me here but good service is hard to come by in Paris, but the delightful Benjamin did Le Meurice proud, and even as a glass turned into a couple of bottles (don’t ask…) and dinner, our trusty Ben was there with his friendly and professional demeanour.
As the evening progressed, we rolled our very posh dice, and yes, I wanted to leave with it, and ordered some snacks and holy taste buds, the fois gras with truffle was simply divine and so light, as though it had been whipped. I almost headed into the kitchen to find out how to make it. As the champagne “hour” continued, the images became slightly blurred and we needed food: a rather fancy Croque-Meurice and sea bream ceviche for us girls. I go weak at the knees for understated detailing so with the elegant candles, unique dice and that ceiling, I didn’t want to leave! It’s all in the details and this, to me, is luxury.
A wonderful evening at what is now one of my favourite bars in Paris.

smiling, your description is sublime
a place for divine decadence and discreet people watch
hotels like this are magic
and the best secret back door way to get in a taxi when there are none
Thank you Madeleine. Pure decadence here and despite the space, you feel cosy and of course, even in a city of never finding a taxi, there was one waiting!
Benjamin is very cute indeed! You always seem to get cute waiters! Can’t wait til I get to Paris hahaha.
Looks amazing, all of it!
Haha, I swear these places have a cuteness requirement! Seriously though, he was very professional and personable, and even after all that champagne, I still remember how good the service was.
Wow! That looks so lovely! What is the dice all about? And that Sea Bream ceviche almost broke me of my veggie eating ways!

The dice has all sorts of snacks on it. Of course they have a menu, but just the concept is fab and gets people talking.
gorge pics of the place. And, Gails’ so much fun it’s easy to let a glass turn into a bottle!
Oh Gail is the best!! I really like this bar because you feel somewhat ‘protected’ from the outside world, and they have a good choice of champagne.
The place looks gorgeous! Oh pray that I get THIS job so I can fly to London/Paris and have tea with you.
And Benjamin is so adorable, like a little boy!
Good luck with the job! Yes, we must have tea when you make it over here. Oui, Ben is just darling!
Love the dice concept! Le Meurice was my father’s favorite place to dine in Paris. Will have to give a shot one of these days.
So unique, isn’t it? I’ve never seen that before. What good taste – I suggest you follow his footsteps and give it a try.
that place looks divine!
I’m so glad you had such a wonderful time
and I’ll pretend I didn’t read about the bottles
Sometimes it’s good to pretend, very gracious of you Lisa!
Such a nice place. I need to start looking for somewhere equally as amazing in London.
looking very lovely. I love good service, specially as it is hard to find. I know for most of the people it is not their drem jobs, but smiling and being nice will not make it any harder.

It was! I think part of why employees in such places seem to enjoy their jobs is that the companies really look after them. It’s not just clock in-clock out. In my research, I discovered that these hotels have a very low staff turn-out – people want to stay!

Wow! that’s some fancy schmancy bar!! I would love to go there one day=D The interior looks lovely!!! and the way you described me the food got me drooling! You like fois gras too? Great taste Milla! Cuz not a lot of people that i know like it. They say it tastes funny and has a funny texture to it.

You may just be the first person to write ” fancy schmancy” on the blog, though why it’s taken so long is beyond me! Hehe! I never liked fois gras before moving to Paris, but the flavour is divine. It is very unique. However, I recently saw something which really put me off eating meat (I was a vegetarian for 10 years). I don’t know…
I love living the high life vicariously through your blog. And I’ve never tried fois gras….ah well, you make it sound worth trying!!

Oh Kate, this is just a peek into a simply Londoner’s Paris. The high life and I have yet to meet!
xx
What an amazing place and I love the photos. IT looks like you had a wonderful evening.
Thank you Lou – Le Meurice really is one of those classic places everyone should visit. It was so much fun!
how elegant and glamousous, indeed! you should become a Dining & Wining writer, sweets!
I’m better at eating than writing about it…
