Milla’s Paris: Breakfast at Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée

Monday, March 5, 2012

As if staying at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris isn’t a treat enough, breakfast in the Alain Ducasse restaurant is like being on a film set. I’ve never dined in such a spectacular place. I have a very bad habit of skipping breakfast but with crystal chandeliers glistening above, where better to enjoy my morning pot of tea and obligatory pain au chocolat than at Avenue Montaigne‘s chicest hotel.

I have a weakness for maple syrup so the fluffy pancakes were a must. Served with a fruit platter to make my calorie-laden choice seem somewhat angelic, I relaxed with the morning paper and enjoyed what I consider the most elegant breakfast I’ve ever had. Seriously, breakfast never looked so glamorous. I cannot wait to go back.

Have you ever stayed or dined at Hôtel Plaza Athénée? Do you have a favourite place to have breakfast?

Oh my god you stayed there on your trip?! AMAZING!! That breakfast looks like complete and utter bliss! The viennoiserie, the pancakes, the maple syrup, the fruit platter…..I’m drooling and I’m not even hungry!! Good on you for spoiling yourself!

Every woman needs a little indulgence every now and then, right? That’s what I tell myself anyway :-)

I don’t even need to see a menu is pancakes and maple syrup are available.

Love this hotel – did you go there during your trip? Don’t think I saw pics.

Breakfast here is about more than eating, it’s the experience. I tell you, I felt like a film star! So glam :-)

German bread is so delicious – I would be so chubby if I lived there.

Add this to your Paris must-do list, you won’t be disappointed. The pain au chocolat was so nice and the chocolate still warm.

Wow wow wow! I wish I had stayed here when I visited Paris (I don’t think I would have been able to leave)! Even the butter looks fancy! Oh yes, and I adore the chairs!

    • Tuesday, March 13, 2012 10:41

Meghan, I didn’t want to leave – I could have easily moved in! The chairs are pretty cool. They’ve done so well at merging traditional and contemporary style together.

I would love to have breakfast in such a fabulous and renowned restaurant. My favourite places to have breakfast are the hotels whenever I travel.

I agree Ada – the idea of having a good night’s sleep followed by breakfast at the hotel. There’s something quite decadent about it all.

Now that is my idea of enjoying breakfast, this looks gorgeous!
I’ve never been there but the only thing I know right now is that I need to be there … one day.

    Sigh!

I can see you there, reading Vogue Paris and enjoying freshly squeezed juice. What a nice start to the morning!

I am Naoko. You look like enjoying in Paris. I would like to visit this hotel and eat pancake.
I will go Paris this Sunday!!

    • Thursday, March 8, 2012 07:06

Naoko, this is the hotel I told you about. If you cannot go for breakfast, I highly recommend you have dessert (choose something from daily tray) and tea in Galeries des Gobelins. Go after 15h00 as they have a harpist playing and it’s just wonderful!

Enjoy Paris and see you when you’re back!

Lucky lady!! You know I pressed husband to try and dine there but the dinner price tag had him running for the hills- I bet I could get him on board with breakfast though. I am hopeful for a weekend back to Paris soon (our longer trips will probably be sidelined now that we bought a house, bummer, but for good reasons!).

    • Tuesday, March 13, 2012 10:45

Thanks Lani. I agree with your husband and let’s just say that breakfast costs nothing like dinner.

Paris isn’t going anywhere and yes, a great reason to hold out on longer trips.

Oh wow! I love that last photo of you Milla – gorgeous :-) I’ve never been here but in NYC my favourite place to take breakfast is the old Beekman Tower. It’s a very tired looking place but for some reason I kinda like that and how you can sit outside with a NYC view. Breakfast out is a nice treat, it was so great to meet you for breakfast in London!

    • Wednesday, March 21, 2012 11:26

Thank you so much – a girl and her tea!

I’ve never been to the Beekman tower but sounds like it captured your heart. Do you think that as Londoners, we don’t dine al fresco enough? I certainly do.

  13. Monday, March 19, 2012 12:55

Ok and how did I miss THIS ONE?

The place looks so regal! I’d be overly cautious with my table manners if I were there.

All in all, it looks like a wonderful place to just chat with friends for hours.

Aggie, when you go to Paris, you must go to the Plaza Athénée, even just for some tea. It is a dream hotel, just a dream!
