Milla’s Paris: Kong
So last Friday we went to Kong restaurant for tea as it was highly recommended by my fabulous tearoom guide and having been designed by Philippe Starck, this girl was curious. Located on the 5th floor inside the beautiful Kenzo building near to Pont Neuf, the service was incredibly slow and we waited approximately 20 minutes to have our order taken despite only 4 tables being occupied and 4 members of staff… My first impression was “Oh no, this is one of those beautiful and expensive places, which just happens to be crap!”. Unfortunately, it just got worse when the very nice waitress came over as she smelt like an ashtray. Now, I know this is France and people smoke more but in this type of setting, where food is involved and smoking is prohibited, I really do not wish to smell what the waitress spends her break doing (but she was very nice and I feel a wee bit mean writing this…).
We ordered our afternoon tea and desserts – a chocolate and passion fruit macaron and a vanilla tart. Tea was served in these metal jugs and you’re really not going to believe this but, the tea was given in sachets. SACHETS PEOPLE! Anybody who knows me, knows that I am a real tea snob so needless to say I wasn’t impressed. Once our desserts were served, all was forgiven; the macaron was sweet, sharp, rich and everything you seek in a dessert. The vanilla tart was perfection and just gently touched all of my taste buds. It was smooth, delicate but full of flavour and the tart crust was baked with love. Absolutely faultless desserts.
Food: 9/10 (tea in a sachet?!)
Service: 5/10
Ambiance: 4/10
