I decided to treat my make-up bag to a few new additions this weekend, and NARS blusher was a must. Since warmer weather is upon us, I thought a nice pink shade would work well. I use NARS ‘Orgasm’ which is lovely but has a wee bit too much shimmer for the day. The ‘Deep Throat’ shade is sheer and pretty pink, though these names are enough to make a Catholic girl blush!
Being a big fan of Chanel beauty products and keeping summer tones in mind, I opted for Chanel lèvres scintillantes glossimer in ‘Giggle’ (46). Lip gloss is a tricky one – all too often there’s barely any colour intensity and the gloss completely transfers after a mere two sips of champagne, which as I’m sure you know is the official way to check the quality a lip gloss. Loving this colour!
I’ve never been a big fan of MAC due to an allergic reaction I had to one of their primers. I find it quite difficult to find foundation for my skin tone as most of the colour matches have red undertones whereas my skin has yellow. Throw in oily, problem-prone and über sensitive skin and you’ve got a make-up mission on your hands. However, given MAC’s ridiculously amazing colour range, I thought I’d give them a try so I faced one of my biggest fears: the beauty counter assistant/make-up artist… My worries were unfounded as the lovely make-up artist drew my attention to the Studio Fix Fluid. She tried out a couple of shades and once we found one I was happy with – NC 43.5 – she asked if I wanted to continue my shopping, see how it worked on my skin and come back and buy later. Very appreciative of her consideration, that’s exactly what I did et voilà, new foundation!
Every woman loves a bit of Chanel so on my recent trip to Les Trois Marches de Catherine B in Paris, I took time to snap away some of my favourites whilst indulging in my fantasy of buying pretty much everything.
My recent article in The Arbuturian gives a little more insight into Catherine B and her vintage heaven, and stay tuned for the Hermès article, Birkins et al!

One of the reasons why I am so cautious when buying beauty products is because of an allergic reaction to MAC‘s ‘Prep & Prime Skin’ I had not once, but twice. The worst part is that the second time was my fault, since I decided to give the product a second chance. It felt so soft and silky, and worked so well with my foundation but after 10 minutes or so, I was itching like crazy and my face turned bright pink. I haven’t used their products since. Since I use MAC brushes and have yet to find a good cleaner for said brushes, I nervously opted for the MAC brush cleaner. How do you clean your make-up brushes? I’ll be sure to rinse very well. Has anybody else had issues with MAC?
NARS is a brand I last used over 5 years ago – their lip-gloss is heavenly and yes, you guessed it, I adore the packaging. I treated myself to a new blusher in the fabulously-named shade of Orgasm – 4013. They also have a pretty shade named “Super Orgasm” but one step at a time, eh?!
On my ridiculously short eyelashes, I usually wear Chanel‘s Inimitable Intense mascara in Black – 10, but opted for the Infinite length/sublime curl in the same shade.
I find that my eyeliner is always sliding off in the warmer weather and that’s just not working for me. I have high hopes for my new long-lasting waterproof eyeliner in Ébène – 10.
Are you experimenting with new brands or like me, do you have your trusty favourites? What make-up will you be buying this month?
My skin is so ridiculously sensitive that I have to be careful about what I use, so when I find a brand that works for me, I stick to it. As I previously mentioned, I tend to use Chanel and Clinique make-up, but decided to give Make-Up Forever a try after hearing a friend rave about it. Fortunately, it seems mind enough for me.
So this month, my new purchases are:
- Make-up For Ever High Definition Foundation in 153
- Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in 66 Bel Ami
- Chanel Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow in 32 Lilium
- Chanel nail polish in 515 Pêche Nacrée
Have you purchased any new make-up this month? Do you have any favourite make-up brands?
There are 3-4 people in the crazy world of celebrity that I like beyond the silver screen and red carpet fashion, and Vanessa Paradis is right up there at the top. Wearing Chanel through this Elle editorial, as Vanessa talks about her fame, her style and her family, you realise that this lady has her feet firmly on the ground, and despite fame and beauty, her natural gentleness hasn’t faded.
