Afternoon Tea at La Cour Jardin, Hôtel Plaza Athénée, Paris

La Cour Jardin at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée La Cour Jardin at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée La Cour Jardin at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée La Cour Jardin at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée La Cour Jardin at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée La Cour Jardin at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée La Cour Jardin at the Hôtel Plaza AthénéeI never tire of Hotel Plaza Athénée. Seriously, it’s like my home away from home. La Galerie des Gobelins is my usual spot but on a warm summers day, only La Cour Jardin will do. Surrounded by red geraniums, the courtyard feels like a secret garden; somewhere to seek refuge from the heat and tourist takeover of Paris. Excuse the irony.

Carrie Bradshaw stayed at the Plaza Athénée in the final two episodes of Sex And The City and believe me, the hotel is as glamorous as the television series. In a typically Parisian manner, the luxury is in the details. Nothing is flaunted around – editors sit calmly and discuss the latest fashion trends as food writers gush over the elegantly prepared plat du jour (dish of the day). Located in the famous triangle d’Or (golden triangle), the hotel is surrounded by all of the elite fashion boutiques – Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Christian Dior. This is the perfect place to stop and relax after doing some major damage to your credit card.

Put it this way, if you haven’t tried Christophe Michalak’s desserts, you haven’t lived! Over tea, une religieuse au caramel au beurre salé (salted caramel religieuse – no idea in English…) and une tartelette aux fraises des bois (wild strawberry tartlette), the making of a great friendship was cemented. That’s the thing about the Plaza Athénée – it is a place to make memories.

La Cour Jardin is open between May and September. Have you been there? I’m keen to hear about your experience.

I haven’t lived!!!! We didn’t get the time to stop in here when we were in Paris but it’s top of my list! Can we have one day where we hop on the Eurostar and head straight here with a spot of shopping in between? I’m totally into doing this as a day trip haha! That religieuse looks like it would bring on that type of experience!

I haven’t had afternoon tea in months! This needs to be rectified. I’m having the biggest cravings for cakes and pastries these days and I may just lose my mind.

The religieuse looks too pretty to eat (but I’m sure I would mange to devour it!) and the salted caramel flavour sounds divine. When I lived in France, the traditional religieuse was always one of my favourites and the name made me smile as they really do seem to resemble a nun!.

Hi Milla! I’ve been so crazy busy I haven’t had a chance to keep up with my blogging buds much lately, but had to stop by to say hello! I must admit that I’m just a wee (okay, a lot) envious of your being able to just drop by the Plaza Athenee often like a glamorous storybook character (well, you are one … the star of your life story!). But, I am grateful that you share the adventures with us so that we can imagine tagging along with you! Hope your having a wonderful September! ~xo Sandy

Hello Sandy, so lovely to read your comments. The great thing about living in Europe is that we have such beautiful cities very close by, so a short plane/train ride later, we’re in a different glamorous city.

Try to take a break from the craziness and enjoy some tea. I do so regularly and trust me, it helps!

  12. 25 September 2012 / 14:52

    I just realised that I haven’t lived.
Note to self: do something about that!

Oh, you’re the exception – you’ve lived! Lisa, this hotel is for you. The interiors and floral arrangements ooze elegance, and the dessert is dream-worthy.
