Milla’s London: Breakfast at the Dean Street Townhouse

A posh breakfast withone of the coolest women I know? Don’t mind if I do! Lasca suggested breakfast at the Dean Street Townhouse, which I had never heard of. I’m so out of touch with London, it’s embarrassing! Upon further research, I discovered that this Soho establishment is part of the Soho House Group. I used to frequent Soho House in New York City way back when I called it “home” as a friend was a member, and I rather liked it. Anyhow, the Dean Street Townhouse opened in at the end of 2009 and serves up unpretentious locally sourced (British & Irish) dishes in a rather nice dining room. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to see baked beans on a menu!

So there we were, two ladies gossiping over Buck’s Fizz at 11h00. Champagne for breakfast? Top me up already! My friend ordered the most delicious grilled Manx kippers and I had grilled mushrooms on toast with grilled tomatoes on the side. Fresh, tasty and the service was good – our waiter had that cheeky yet professional manner I adore about British service. Add that to the old-yet-new charm of the restaurant’s décor and the reasonable prices, and you have yourself a nice place to stop whilst enjoying Soho.

Yes, tradition all the way! Sometimes simple, charming food works best. It feels more like home too.

I agree – simplicity is always the best! What type of thing do you eat for breakfast?

Oo I have heard of this place but I’ve never been so it’s nice to read this review and see some pictures of the interior. Locally sourced food? Check. Champagne for breakast? Check check. Perfect. I will visit when I’m next home….

It sounds silly Sarah, but it was so nice to have toast! Of course, one can find toast here but I tend to buy fresh bread instead. Add in some fab company, and yep, a pretty amazing morning!

Not the worst way to start the day Sandy, that’s for sure! Brunch isn’t really a big thing in Europe, so a champagne breakfast is just fabulous!

If we ever meet Kate, it’ll be champagne and shoes for breakfast. Deal?!
